Welcome back to the Life is Lovely linkup! We’re here each Tuesday sharing the lovely things in our lives and we invite you to link up your blog posts below to join in on the fun!
The Raleigh-Durham area of North Carolina has always been a second home to me and I thoroughly love every visit I’m able to make there. So much of my extended family is in the area and my sister is there also. This past weekend, I had about 24 hours to spend in Durham with my sister and we made the most of every moment! I headed up right after work on Friday and met her at Parker & Otis in downtown Durham. This little restaurant/store is our absolute favorite place and it’s largely due to their coffee. The iced coffee is amazing, but so is the food!
Once we picked up our dinner to-go, we drove over to the Duke Gardens and had a little picnic among the beautiful flowers and plants that were in bloom. I’m a Tarheel girl through and through so the Duke Gardens are the only reason you’d find me on Duke’s campus, but it truly is a beautiful place. We couldn’t resist taking some photos!
On Saturday, we headed back to downtown Durham for lunch at the BEST Cuban restaurant in the world, Old Havana Sandwich Shop. They’ve changed their hours around recently and as a result, I hadn’t been here in months which was an absolutely tragedy. Let me just tell you, their Havana Sandwich (pork, ham, mustard, pickles) doused with their Papa Bull hot sauce and a plate of their Papas Bravas is absolute heaven. Old Havana even hosts Salsa dancing nights, but I haven’t made it for one of those sadly.
After lunch, I headed down the road to The Parlour to meet up with my dear friend from high school, Adam, for some ice cream. Adam was getting married the following Saturday (later this week!) and I wasn’t going to be able to make it. Since he’s relocated to Durham since college, I checked to see if he’d be in town so that I could give him his wedding gift in person. It’s always so fun to catch up with old friends and I’m so excited for what God is doing in his life!
