Well, it’s Monday friends. Mondays are never particularly exciting, especially when coming off of a pretty awesome weekend/mini-vacation.
My day began with realizing I left my school ID badge and key to my classroom at home. This realization came as I pulled into the parking lot, so that was awesome. All in all, my kiddos were pretty well-behaved but my mind kept drifting back to the laughter-filled moments that filled my weekend on the Virginia coast.
Growing up, us younger five of the fifteen grandchildren on my mother’s side of the family pretty much stuck together at all of the family functions. We’re all pretty close in age and four of the five are siblings so that all kind of sealed the deal. From top to bottom it starts with my sister at July ’87, cousin Jessica in April ’88, cousin Matthew in May ’88, cousin John in July ’90, and then me in May ’91. Matthew and I actually have the same birthday, something I have always thought was pretty cool.
This past weekend, my cousin John got married (!) and a few of the aunts/uncles traveled up to Virginia for the occasion and much to my delight it also meant some treasured cousin time.
Things have certainly changed as we’ve all gotten older. I’m a teacher, Sarah is working for Duke/VA Hospital, Jessica is in school, John is flight instructor after following his dream of becoming a pilot, and Matthew just returned from a 13 month stay in South America. John lives in Florida, Jessica is in Virginia, and Sarah and Matthew are in the Triangle area of NC.
Things are different, no doubt, but my heart is full with the laughter and fun from the much-needed break from the day-to-day life.
