|disclaimer: our tree isn’t actually brown on top, it’s just the filter. It’s really a beautiful tree! 🙂|
Happy December everyone! As much as I love Fall, December has to be my favorite month of the year. So much Christmas cheer going around and beautiful decor to see! This Friday, for the Five on Friday link up, I wanted to share five of my favorite Christmas ornaments on our family Christmas tree!
1- Mariachi Santa
ole! You might be surprised to learn that I am actually half-Mexican, hence why my family has a mariachi Santa ornament. I love to be able to incorporate my Mexican heritage and its unique traditions and culture anywhere I can so this is definitely one of my favorites!
2- Harry Potter
Accio Christmas! I got this ornaments years ago, back when the books were still being published and I was forced to wait months between each installment. Somewhere along the way we lost track of it, but last year we rediscovered this fun ornament hiding in storage and it’s now back on our tree! Now that definitely takes me back to my childhood.
3- Go AppState!
Gotta have an ornament that represents my alma mater! I received my Bachelor’s degree from Appalachian State University but starting in January I’ll be working towards a Master’s degree from the University of Florida so I guess I should search for a Florida Gators ornament.
4- Chili Pepper
Once again, not only is my family Hispanic, but we also love spicy food so when I found this chili pepper ornament a few years ago, I knew it was meant to be hung on our tree!
5- Hide the Pickle!
So, this one might seem a little weird. Apparently in Germany, there is a tradition of hiding the Christmas pickle ornament on the tree. On Christmas Day, the child who finds the ornament is said to have a year of good fortune or an extra present from Santa Claus. My family isn’t even German so that isn’t exactly why we have one. On my Mom’s side of the family, everyone loves pickles, myself included. One of my uncles makes his own sour pickles and that is something that he is known for since everyone loves them. When my sister and I were younger, that uncle was always known as “Uncle Pickle” to us for that reason so it’s more of a inside family “joke” I suppose. I’m not even entirely sure which cousin created that nickname for him.
