On this day, 31 years ago, my mom and dad said their “I dos” at small chapel in Las Vegas.

Now, it wasn’t a typical Vegas wedding. At this point, my parents had known each other for about ten years. My dad was a full-time, traveling musician while my mom stayed home here in the Charlotte area. They basically did the long distance thing for 10 years so when they were both in California visiting my Dad’s family, they decided to drive out to Las Vegas and get married. According to my Mom, there really wasn’t a big hoopla or anything.
What an amazing thing to have shared your life and made 31 years worth of memories with your love? It’s something that I can’t even fathom right now in my current life stage (early 20s, single, no relationship prospects).
Often, I joke with them anytime that they show any sort of affection with each other and start to act “grossed out.”
What can I say, I’m still a child at heart…
But seriously, these two have set such a fantastic example for my sister and I of what a loving and supportive marriage should look like.
Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad, here’s to 31 more.
