Happy Tuesday, friends! We’re back with another week of our Life is Lovely linkup! Each Tuesday, we provide you with a place to share a bit of the lovely that is in your lives lately. I urge you to check out each of the links below, as well as all of the hosts of this linkup, including myself! We’re glad you’re here.
For me, I really reflected on the real meaning behind this Memorial Day weekend. Around here, it’s all about grilling out and watching NASCAR and the Coca-Cola 600. But then, on Sunday evening, my Dad did something that made me so proud and grateful for all of our service members. My Uncle Louie, who passed away from cancer in early 2014, was a proud Army veteran and served in Vietnam. One of the things that I love about him, even though I didn’t know this about him until the end of his life, was that he was an incredibly generous and giving man. He was all about the random acts of kindness and had a special love and respect for his fellow veterans. Well, on Sunday evening, my Dad walked over to our neighbors next door with a card. Our neighbor served in the armed forces and now works as a security guard to support his wife and three young children. In the card my Dad gave him, he wrote that his brother died on January 3, 2014 and that he served in Vietnam. He wrote that his brother was a giving man and loved random acts of kindness. In the envelope my Dad enclosed some money and asked that he accept this gift in his brother’s memory and honor. Minutes later, my Mom received a text from our neighbor’s wife and said that her husband was in tears and completely speechless. That’s what it’s all about, my friends.
