If you have been following along with my monthly goals and life lists this year, then you may already know that living seasonally has recently become a passion of mine. I was growing tired of each year passing by and realizing that I was just breezing through the seasons and the beautiful, small moments without ever really acknowledging or celebrating them.
One way that I celebrate the seasons is through my home decor. Although my living space is small since I’m still living at home, I have still found ways to incorporate the seasons into my living spaces. My biggest tip for this is to stalk your Target’s Dollar Spot – it is a seasonal living junkie’s heaven! I have definitely come along way with how I style and organize my space, but I can’t wait to share it with you all.
One of the favorite ways that I decorate is with family photos and mementos. On just about every space in my room, you will find photos of my family and loved ones. On my dresser, I keep a family photo, a square print from my maternal grandmother’s 89th birthday, as well as my paternal grandparents’ wedding photo in mirrored tray that I got on clearance at Target. Also on the tray are a couple statement bracelets that I’ve worn to various events, the shell necklace I got in Hawaii while visiting family, and a magnet with the Santa Fe Railroad logo on it (my paternal grandfather worked for the Santa Fe Railroad). I also have a rosary from my late paternal grandmother and a small dish that used to be in my maternal grandmother’s home.
To the left of my bed is a hand-me-down shelf that I got from my Aunt. I used it in college for my DVDs and TV, but now it has become a makeshift nightstand on this side. It still holds my DVDs and my various cords and chargers down below but I love the top of it as well. Here, I have an Eiffel Tower lamp (with the tassel from my college graduation cap), a photo of my sister and I with our late maternal grandmother, and one of my very favorite prints from Lara Casey’s shop. I love that it always reminds me to start and end each day with a posture of gratitude to our Lord.
On my actual nightstand, I keep my iPhone charger and my daily devotional and journal. This journal that I keep displayed was a gift from my sister and features one of my favorite C.S Lewis quotes but I haven’t quite moved into it just yet.
“I believe in Christ like I believe in the sun, not because I can see it but by it I can see everything else” // C.S Lewis
This little shelf is basically just for displaying various things, but this is probably one of my favorite spaces in my room. In the gold vase, I have the beaded necklaces that my maternal grandmother used to make for me during her occupational therapy sessions. The North Carolina sign is a handmade sign that I got at a pop-up market in Raleigh recently, along with this sign from Hobby Lobby with my favorite sentiment, “It is well with my soul.” Down below, I have more family photos and mementos. The white mug is from the company that my maternal grandmother used to work for and says, “The wind beneath our wings”. The morning after my grandmother passed away I had these lyrics in my mind, completely randomly, and later that day I stumbled on this mug in her house. The round button is my paternal grandfather’s military picture and was used as my nametag at our 2008 family reunion. The burgandy frame holds my Uncle Louie and Aunt Sandy, my dad’s siblings who passed away two weeks apart from cancer. At the very bottom is my sister and I with my paternal grandmother on our last visit with her in Hawaii.
I hope you all enjoyed this peek into how I style my living space! As you can see, I keep my loved ones and cherished memories and mementos close by at all times. I am at my happiest when I am surrounded by the ones that I love and the sweet memories we’ve made!
